Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
No. Many people begin therapy because they feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or simply want additional support. If a diagnosis is appropriate for insurance purposes, we'll discuss it together as part of the assessment process.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
Your first session focuses on getting to know you. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, relevant history, and what you hope to accomplish. There is no pressure to share everything during the first meeting.
How long are therapy sessions?
Most individual therapy sessions are approximately 53–60 minutes.
How often should I attend therapy?
That depends on your goals and current needs. Many clients begin with weekly sessions before transitioning to biweekly or monthly appointments as progress is made.

EMDR
What is EMDR therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming.
Is EMDR only for PTSD?
No.
EMDR can also be helpful for anxiety, childhood trauma, panic attacks, grief, negative self-beliefs, and many other concerns.
Will I have to relive my trauma?
No.
EMDR is not about forcing you to repeatedly tell painful stories. We move at your pace and spend time building coping skills before processing difficult memories.
Mental Health
Do you treat anxiety?
Yes.
Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy. Treatment focuses on understanding both the emotional and physical aspects of anxiety while developing practical coping skills.
Do you work with veterans?
Yes.
As a veteran myself, I understand many of the unique challenges military service can bring, including trauma, hypervigilance, transition to civilian life, identity changes, and relationship difficulties.
Do you work with LGBTQIA+ clients?
Absolutely.
I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself and understand that identity, relationships, and life experiences can be deeply personal. My goal is to provide a space where you don't have to educate your therapist, hide parts of yourself, or worry about being judged.
Whether you're exploring your identity, navigating relationships, coping with discrimination, or seeking support for concerns unrelated to being LGBTQIA+, you'll be met with respect, affirmation, and evidence-based care. Everyone deserves a place where they can show up authentically.
Do you treat ADHD?

Therapy can help improve executive functioning, organization, emotional regulation, motivation, and self-understanding while working alongside medication management when appropriate.

That's completely normal.
Many people feel anxious before their first appointment. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How long does therapy take?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer.
Some people meet for a few months, while others benefit from longer-term work depending on their goals and circumstances.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
